Rogers Cup 2011: Djokovic Vs Fish Final Match Time
It's match time at Rogers Cup 2011, when Serbia's Novak Djokovic clashes with USA's Mardy Fish in the final at Montreal on Sunday.
Ranked 8th in the world, Fish who was born on December 9, 1981, is five and a half years older than the world number one. In eight matches between the players, Fish has not won a single one of those encounters. The first time the players met was in the second round of the US Open in 2006, a match that Djokovic won in four sets 7-6, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6.
Fish has been in fine form during this year's Rogers Cup and the match on Sunday could be an intriguing contest, although Djokovic is an overwhelming favourite to win it.
In his next meeting with the American, in the final of the Hopman Cup, in 2008, the Serbian world number one faced a tougher fight, and eventually prevailed with a score-line of 6-2, 6-7, 7-6. Later the same year, the players met in the final at Indian Wells. Again the match went to three sets, but in the end it was easier for Djokovic who took the first set 6-2, and lost the next 5-7 but cruised through the final set 6-3 to run out the winner.
Then came Wimbledon 2009, and the men met in the third round, a match in which Fish was simply out of his depth as Djokovic churned out a straight-sets 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 win.
A year later the pair met again at Indian Wells, this time in the second round, and as ever, Djokovic took the first set, only to lose the second to love. That acted as a wake up call for the Serbian who proceeded to demolish Fish in the third set to win the match 6-1, 0-6, 6-2.
The scene of action between the two players shifted again to the US Open in 2010, where in the fourth round, Djokovic gave an exhibition of hard court tennis that overwhelmed his American rival, as the Serbian world number one prevailed in straight sets, by a score-line of 6-3, 6-4, 6-1. Later that year, the players met in the China Open in Beijing. Djokovic won the second round match when Fish conceded a walk over.
The latest meeting between the players came at Miami, earlier this year, and once again the match went in favour of Djokovic, who has lost just the one match this year, to Federer, in the French Open semi-finals. Djokovic won the semi-finals at Miami, against Fish, in straight sets, with the scoreboard reading 6-3, 6-1.
