2009 ICC Twenty20 World Cup - A Review

After a successful year in 2007 ICC World Twenty20 World Cup tournament in South Africa, the fans were waiting for the 2009 ICC Cricket World Twenty 20 World Cup in England. But the structure of the tournament held in 2009 was underwhelming. England, as guests were apparently with the legendary Ashes series starting next month (July) busy. India, Sri Lanka and South Africa were due before the tournament favorites. Pakistan, New Zealand and Australia took the label of "hot candidates".

TournamentFormat

The teams of each group playing in a round-robin format. The top two in each group advanced to the second round (Super Eights) based on their seed. If a team beat a team seeded postulated, then the team would postulate unseeded team to take rank. For example, if C1 C3 put out, then was C3 C1.

Every game in the tournament needed a result. If a game ended in a draw, then this game would get an additional Super Over Eliminator. A lot left / no-result requires a split in points (1 point), while a win was worth 2 points.
