How many people take FIFA and UEFA seriously when it comes to nominations or most of their rules for that matter?

It is still a wonder to me that every time I tune to paramount comedy, I do not see Sepp Baltter and his cohorts on that particular channel as their brand of wit would surely be classified as sarcasm.

This is almost a scandal and an insult to a lot of football loving fans the world over.

Why is it always based on reputations, pleasing certain countries and National Championships?

Fabio Cannavaro is a great defender but he had a rotten season by anyone's standard and should not be anywhere near being nominated.

Carlos Tevez had a good 3 months for West Ham and he is there ahead of some players that I will come to later. Would he have been nominated if he did not transfer to Manchester United?

Thierry Henry by all accounts and for all those that watched his last season at Arsenal and his start of the season with Barcelona will tell you that he has been pants.

Let us forget about his amazing arsenal career for a minute and just judge him on the last 12 months, which is what these awards should all be about and not reputation; he was injured for most of it and even when he has played he has been poor.

Ronaldinho, I suppose should be there because he played well in patches and because there are about 30 nominees and I guess we can say he was 1 of the best 30 players in the world last season.

Why are Lillian Thuram and Patrick Vieira nominated? They hardly played all last season and have not really featured this season either, so it's just nonsense for them to be nominated.
Franck Ribery and Juan roma Riquelme are very fine players but Ribery has just started to hit top form as he had an injury-hit season at Marseilles and Riquelme was hardly used at Villareal all season.

Rafael Marquez and Deco? Come on! They were both very average. I am a big Deco fan but he was not very good throughout last season while Marquez was not any better.

Petr Cech, Wayne Rooney and John Terry? Is it really necessary to pander to some clubs and some nations while forsaking others? Terry and Cech were missing most of the season and were not decisive in Chelsea's season while Rooney was hardly exceptional with a lot of premiership strikers far more deserving.

Did he really have a better season than Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs or Nemanja Vidic?

Finally we come to Samuel Eto'o, is this joke? He is a fantastic player but like Henry, he missed large chunks of the season and when he did return, he was not the same player, missing a plethora of chances and not looking like the same player.

For the absent players:-

Francesco Totti, how is it possible that you can be golden boot winner and not be nominated? Is it because Roma is not a supposed big club? He has been fantastic all year and it is a scandal that he was not nominated.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, while Patrick Vieira, who contributed little to Inter's all conquering season is nominated, Zlatan is omitted after having the season of his life. He not only scored lots of goals, he created a lot for his teammates as well.

Why were his teammates like Dejan Stankovic and Javier Zanetti omitted?

David Villa was possibly the best striker in the world last season but somehow, Fernando Torres was nominated and he was not. Is it because Torres is now at Liverpool? Why wasn't David Silva nominated either?

How can FIFA totally ignore the fabulous season that Sevilla enjoyed by ignoring the claims of Fredi kanoute and Daniel Alves?

Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane lit up the premiership for Tottenham Hotspurs but they saw it fit to nominate Rooney instead.

Cesc Fabregas and Andres Iniesta had fantastic seasons but they chose to ignore their claims instead we see the likes of Deco and Frank Lampard, players living on former glory.

Wesley Sneljder is having a fantastic period of great play but he is not a household name yet so he is not nominated.

Players like Daniele De Rossi and teammate Simone Perrotta should have been nominated.

Jamie Carragher had a fantastic season, far better than John Terry but he is not England captain so he is ignored.

Chelsea's best players were Didier Drogba, Michael Essien and undoubtedly Ricardo Carvalho, who alongside Jamie Carragher was the best defender in the premiership

What else does Luca Toni have to do to get himself nominated? I know score goals for Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester united, Liverpool or Ac Milan, that's what.

Diego had a fabulous season but he is ignored because it won't do to nominate a player from Werder Bremen. Same could be said for Nasri, who had a better season overall than Ribery but he did not transfer to a bigger club like Bayern Munich.

I guess the only real surprise is that this time around they did not nominate Adriano, Ronaldo, Andriy Shevchenko, Michael Ballack and David Beckham.

Nominations should be based on form and not politics but it would not be FIFA if that was the case.
