World War II Video Games

Very often historical topics are used as part of the storyline and setting for video games. World War II is among the most popular historical topic used for video games today, with literally hundreds of titles available today. Most of these games also run on most platforms, including of course the Xbox 360 and original Xbox, the original PlayStation and PlayStation 2 and 3, the Wii, my favorite, and PC and Mac platforms as well.

One may question why there are so many and why they are so popular. Certainly World War II history is very popular as well, but it's starting to be ancient history. Most game players only know of it as something that happened long long ago, not as a war in which perhaps their grandfathers or fathers fought.

Maybe it's our fascination with Nazis, or more accurately killing Nazis? Certainly World War II has a clear villain, Adolf Hitler, who is as evil as a human can get. We've always had a fascination with evil, and Hitler is naturally more fascinating than a made up evil force lie Darth Vader to many people. Certainly these games do tend to be a lot of fun as well, although everyone will have their individual preferences.

Games include first and third-person shooter games, like the very popular Call of Duty  and Medal of Honor Series. There are also plenty of real time strategy games like the Close Combat series and several real time tactics games like the Battlestations series. There are also air simulators, air simulators, turn based strategy games, and much more.
